A Life-Changing Moment

I still remember the moment vividly. It was a typical Tuesday morning, and I was sipping my coffee while my kids were getting ready for school. As a millennial working mom, my life was a constant juggle between family, work, and personal aspirations. Little did I know that this day would mark a turning point in my life.

I had just launched my first batch of done-for-you digital products, and within 48 hours, I made $2000. Yes, you read that right—$2000 in just one day! It felt surreal, almost like a dream. But it was real, and it was happening to me.

 

The Journey Begins - How to Make Money with PLR Products

My journey into the world of digital products started out of necessity. I was looking for a way to increase our household income and try to reduce my work hours so that I no longer need to sacrifice time with my family. That ‘Mom guilt’ was really getting to me.

Now previously, I had dabbled in various online businesses, but nothing seemed to stick. Then, I stumbled upon the concept of done-for-you digital products with master resell rights. These are ready-made digital products that can be customized and resold as their own, keeping 100% of the profits. The idea was simple yet powerful, making them perfect for someone like me who needed a quick and efficient way to make a side income.

And to be honest, the idea of earning passive income while I slept was incredibly appealing.

Discovering the Power of PLR Products

The first step was to find my niche. I spent hours researching different markets and identifying gaps that I could fill. I realized that there was a growing demand for digital planners and organizational tools for specific interests. Now, as someone who loves planning and organizing, this niche felt like a perfect fit.

I started creating and purchasing digital planners, calendars, and to-do lists that were not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

Creating the products was both exciting and challenging. But buying and reselling was even more exciting because I no longer needed to create the product and could list it in my store within minutes of creating the listing and promotional material for it.

One thing I have learned through the many online businesses I have is that I have always wanted to ensure that my products were high-quality and valuable to my customers. I used tools like Canva to design and redesign my PLR planners and templates. I also invested time in learning about user experience and design principles to make my products user-friendly. Each product was a labor of love, and I poured my heart into every detail.

Setting Up My Online Store

Once my products were ready, and at the time I wanted to make sure I had at least 20 products available, it was time to set up my online store.

I’ll be honest, I started with all intentions of making the majority of the products but I ended up purchasing 15 PLRs and only making 5 products.

I chose Shopify and Etsy as my platforms of choice and decided to just go for it. Setting up the Etsy store was much easier than shopify as I was following a beautiful guide called the Etsy Started Kit from Digital Products Central. It is written by Yvonne who has sold over $70,000 printables in under 2 years. Following her step by step guide and using her Etsy starter kit made it so much easier. In fact, in one weekend, the Etsy store was up and running.

I also decided to start a Shopify store so that I could own my own space on the internet. Now this truly was a labor of love and it took me at least 3 full days to figure it out, but after many late nights and YouTube videos, I managed to create this site and to be honest, I enjoyed the process.

I customized both stores to reflect my brand and added detailed descriptions and high-quality images of my products. I also set up payment gateways and ensured that the checkout process was smooth and secure.

Now I know you're thinking, why 2 stores and not just one?

I guess because of my previous experience with online businesses, I wanted to make sure this time I was not putting all my eggs in just one basket. Now would I recommend this for a beginner with digital products? Absolutely not. I would say try one platform and build from there.

Marketing and Promotion

With my store up and running, the next step was to market my products. I knew that having great products was not enough; and this exactly what my Etsy starter guide confirmed to me.

So, I needed to also get them in front of the right audience. I started by leveraging social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. I created visually appealing reels, posts and pins that showcased my products and linked back to my store. I also ran a small $10 a day facebook ad linking back people to my shopify products.

With Etsy it was a little different, I spend a lot of time learning SEO techniques and optimizing my listings for the Etsy algorithm, which is also in the starter guide. And doing this helped me rank on the first page. I also undercut my competitors and made sure my offer was irresistible.

Risky, I know!

But what I have learned is that sometimes you have to reduce your profit margin, gain customers and increase your reputation and then you can readjust your prices for profit again.

The First Sale: A Moment of Joy

The day I launched my store was a mix of excitement and nerves. I had put in so much effort, and I hoped it would pay off. I sent out emails to my small subscriber list, posted on social media, and even ran a few Facebook ads.

I remember the excitement of my first sale. It was a small amount, but it felt like a huge victory. Then the responses started coming in and orders started pouring in, and within 48 hours, I had made $2000. It was unbelievable. I was shocked by how much money I had made in such a short time.
